If you are strapped for time and you are expecting a quick and fuss-free recipe that JewelPie normally offer, you can stop reading now. However, if you want to learn to make a tasty and impressive snack to serve your guest, you will be pleased with this recipe.

I’ve gotten the recipe at a Tefal’s cooking even at Bayan Indah. Of course, at JewelPie, we try to simplify everything. This recipe is no exception.

YOU’LL NEED TO DO A FEW THINGS:

1. Make pancake
Make pancake batter and then cook each one on a pan. You can use a blender.

2. Cook meat filling
This meat filling takes about 10 – 15 minutes to cook over a wok.

3. Wrap meat filling with pancakes

4. Prepare homemade chili sauce
You need only pour simple ingredients into the blender, press a button and it’ll be done!

TIP TO COOK FASTER

  • The pancake mix and homemade chili sauce can be made in a blender.
  • Buy minced meat so you don’t have to mince it yourself.
  • Use a non-stick pan to ease cooking and cleaning up.
  • A pancake pan would make cooking pancakes easier. But you can also cook it in the same wok you will make the filling later. You’ll have one less pan to wash!
  • Have your guest put filling in the pancake and roll it themselves. It’s fun!

1. RECIPE FOR PANCAKES
A thin pancake to wrap around delicious fillings.

INGREDIENTS
100 ml coconut milk
200 ml water
1 egg
1 Tbsp oil
½ tsp salt
⅛ tsp ground turmeric
150 g plain flour

INSTRUCTIONS

TO MAKE BATTER

  1. Place coconut milk, water, egg, oil, salt and turmeric in a blender (We used Tefal Blendforce Maxi Glass BL233).
  2. Turn blender on low speed and mix until well combined (30 seconds).
  3. Tip flour into the liquid in the blender and blend at lowest speed for 1 minute or until a smooth batter is formed.
  4. Strain mixture into a bowl, cover and set aside to rest 20 minutes before making pancakes.
  5. While waiting, make filling  (see recipe below.)

TO COOK PANCAKES

  1. Heat a pan (We used Tefal Titanium Pancake Pan) over medium heat and brush lightly with oil.
  2. Pour in just enough batter and quickly rotate pan, to make a thin pancake, cooking it 3 – 4 minutes before flipping pancake over to cook the other side for 30 seconds.
  3. Stack pancakes onto a plate as you make them.

2. RECIPE FOR FILLINGS
A delicious savoury filling using minced chicken or beef.

INGREDIENTS
10 g ginger, finely chopped
3 shallots, chopped
20 g chopped carrot
150 g minced beef (or chicken)
½ tsp ground black pepper
1 Tbsp ground coriander
⅛ tsp ground turmeric
½ tsp salt
½ tsp sugar
2 Tbsp sliced daun sup (celery leaves)

INSTRUCTIONS

TO COOK FILLING

  1. Heat oil and fry ginger, shallots and carrot for 3 minutes in a wok (We used Tefal City Cook Wokpan).
  2. Add minced beef or chicken, pepper, coriander, turmeric, salt and sugar.
  3. Cook on low heat for 5-6 minutes, stir in daun sup and take pan off the heat. Transfer filling into a small bowl.

3. WRAP FILLINGS WITH PANCAKES
Place fillings at the corner of a pancake and start wrapping it like a popiah. Then, cut the roll into half.

4. RECIPE FOR HOMEMADE DIPPING SAUCE
A simple and spicy homemade dipping sauce.

INGREDIENTS
3 fresh red chillies (60 g), seeded & sliced
2 cloves garlic, sliced
1 Tbsp water
2 Tbsp white vinegar
2 tsp tomato ketchup
1 Tbsp sugar
½ tsp salt

INSTRUCTIONS

TO MAKE DIPPING SAUCE:

Combine chillies, garlic, water, vinegar, tomato ketchup, sugar and salt in a blender (We used Tefal Blendforce Maxi Glass BL233 jug) and whizz finely.
