When I stepped into my first yoga class, I wanted to pick up as much techniques as I can and leave the one-year yoga programme with enough skills to practice on my own. Now, I manage to squeeze in from a few minutes to half an hour of yoga practice at home. Where do I get my inspiration for different workouts? Yoga gurus on Youtube!
1. Tara Stiles
Tara Stiles is a former-model-turned-yoga-instructor and the founder of Strala Studio in New York. While she does have her own yoga channel (Tara Stiles), I prefer her virtual classes at LivestrongWoman which I find more systematic and professional. She is probably my favourite Yoga Youtube Guru; her classes are relevant and instructions easy to follow.
Favourite video: “Inversion Simplified”. I was able to do shoulder stand (shirshasana) from her tips from this video.
2. Yoga with Adriene
Adriene Mishler is a yoga teacher cum actress. Watching her is like doing yoga with a friend. She inject some fun into her yoga practice, giving it a personal touch.
Favourite video: “Yoga for when you are sick”. One day, I was sick and I didn’t want to lie on bed all day. So I thought it might be a good idea to move my muscles in a gentler way and found this video.
3. Fightmaster Yoga
I first discovered Fightmaster Yoga through a busy friend who lives in New York City and practices yoga during the weekends. Lesley of Fightmaster Yoga teaches the YogaWorks method to aspiring teachers and was even asked to be an Ambassador for Lululemon Athletica.
Favourite video: My friend told me this particular high-intensity cardio video gave her her best at home workout.
4. Meghan Currie
Meghan Currie is a free-spirit yogi who turns yoga practice into a mix of dance and play. She teaches at EkhartYoga and travels the world with retreats, workshops and teacher training.
Favourite video: This is the very first video which makes me fell more in love with yoga.
5. Yoga with Kino MacGregor
Kino MacGregor an international yoga teacher, author of three books, producer of six Ashtanga Yoga DVDs, writer, vlogger, co-founder of Miami Life Center (www.miamilifecenter.com) and founder of Miami Yoga Magazine (www.miamiyogamagazine.com).
Favourite video: “Beginner Splits”. With the hopes to be able to do Monkey Pose (Hanumanasana) one day, I find this video informative.
