myBurgerLab Portobello Fries

INGREDIENTS
(2 servings)
Portobello mushroom, large ………………….. 2 whole pieces
Bread crumbs………………………………………..1/4 cup
Eggs……………………………………………. …… 2
All purpose flour…………………………………..1/4 cup

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Slice each portobello mushroom lengthwise with about a 1 cm width.
  2. Coat all slices evenly with flour.
  3. Scramble the eggs, dip coated portabello slices evenly with egg coating.
  4. Immediately places egg coated slices into bread crumb mix. Make sure all side of the slices are thoroughly coated with bread crumbs.
  5. Heat oil until it starts to smoke. Deep fry the fries with some garlic cloves till golden brown.
  6. Serve with dipping sauce of choice. Honey-mustard or spicy sauces go particularly well.

TIPS

  • To add more flavour to the all purpose flour, add 1/4 tsp garlic and 1/4 tsp onion powder. You can also use ‘Kentucky’ flour.
  • For better taste, use a oil with high peanut oil content.
  • Warning, portobello mushrooms are high in water content, hence it’ll be piping hot when out of the fryer, leave aside for 4 to 5 minutes before it is safe to eat.
  • Constantly flip the portobello slices as they are light in weight and will float on oil surface. Make sure all sides are cooked evenly.
