KFC style gravy for mashed potatoes (4 ingredients)

For many Malaysians, our first memory of mashed potatoes is probably from KFC. While it may not be gourmet nor healthy, the mashed potato with the addictive gravy reminds us of our childhood. Naturally, we were extremely delighted to get our hands on a recipe which taste a lot like Colonel Sander’s secret recipe!

Though this recipe needs only 4 ingredients, it takes a bit of stirring and monitoring over the stove. However, if you love Kentucky Fried Chicken’s mashed potatoes and cook for a big party, the toil will be worth it.

INGREDIENTS

> Butter……………………………………………………..3 tbsp
> All-purpose flour………………………………………5 tbsp
> Cubed chicken stock………………………………….1 piece
> Cubed beef stock……………………………………….1 piece
>  Water………………………………………………………2 1/4 cups

KFC style mashed potatoes's gravy

  1. In a small bowl, dilute the chicken and beef cubes in water with a fork. To make this easier, allow refrigerated cubes to thaw.
  2. In a pot, melt butter in low heat.
  3. Add a tablespoon of flour into the pot and cook in low heat. Continue stirring and gradually add more flour. Note that this step is very important. The sauce can burn if the heat is too high or turn lumpy if too much flour is added.
  4. Add the diluted chicken and beef stock into the saucepan. Continue stirring until the sauce turn brown and smooth.Bring the mixture to boil and serve over mashed potatoes.

    I just tried making this recipe i find it too thick unlike kfc which is runny. How can i rectify the recipe? Thks

    Hi I noticed that you used beef stock in your mash potatoes recipe..we don’t take beef due to religion reason. Can I add one more of chicken cube in it?

    Yes you can use chicken stock but the taste would be different. Have fun in the kitchen!

    What happened. If u don’t Have water from pork can u just use hot water
