How to wash fruits & veggies to reduce pesticide?

We’ve mentioned the difficulty of buying organic produce and explored the benefits of buying a special veggie wash. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to use Safeguard fruit and veggie wash. JewelPie: Safeguard Fruit & Veggie Wash

1. Pump Fruit & Veggie Wash into a basin of water
The instruction calls for 2 to 3 pumps to half a sink of water. We normally wash our vegetables in a designated basin, which is about half a sink and works out to about 3 litres (Yes, we’ve measured). So two pumps go into that. Use filtered water if you can.

2. Swirl it to mix.
Gentle swirl it with your hand (or a vegetable). We’re always very happy to smell the scent of fresh citrus oil. It’s like kitchen aromatherapy!

3. Wash/ soak fruits and veggie
Safeguard recommends washing fruits and veggies in 30 seconds. We normally just soak the vegetables as we do other things in the kitchen.

You might also want to roughly rinse obviously dirty vegetables before hand. We always scrub potatoes and put them into a separate basin.

4. Rinse (Optional)
After that, you can rinse the vegetables with water. But since the wash is made from 100% pure ingredients we don’t mind ingesting- e.g. organic aloe vera, citrus essential oil and olive extract – we skipped this step.

We don’t normally buy apples as it tops of the of food most contaminated with pesticide. Now with this veggie wash, buying apples wouldn’t be a huge deterrence (Though after washing we still scrap off remaining wax residue on apple with a knife).

Now you can eat your inorganic purchase of fruits and vegetables with a peace of mind!
