How to make poached eggs in a microwave (1 minute!)

Quick CookHow do you cook an egg? Whether it’s boiled, fried or scrambled, we still love them! Recently, I’ve been hankering for poached eggs. So while I cooked my lunch in office, I began wondering; is there an easy way to poach eggs in the microwave?poached egg in microwave

Thus my research began, and I came across this wonderful technique: How to poach an egg in the microwave.

  1. Crack an egg into a cup.
  2. Fill the cup with approximately 1/3 cup of warm water
  3. Add in half teaspoon of vinegar.
  4. Cook egg on HIGH mode for 45 seconds.
  5. Remove the cup from the microwave and gently scoop the egg out with a spoon or a fine sieve.

  • Use warm water. I’ve tested it out with cold water and hot water, results were dismal.
  •  I’ve read a few tutorials and each tutorial indicates a different set of timing to cook the egg in the microwave. After a couple of experiments, I discovered that 45 seconds on HIGH mode was enough to poach an egg. Any longer and it’ll be hard-boiled, and if you take it our early it’ll be soft-boiled.

There you have it, a nice poached egg!

Perfect for your heavy meals or sandwiches. I gave my open sandwich an egg-cellent topping!

And is it half tsp or tbsp? Cos the amount of vinegar on the spoon in the image is kinda like a tsp? Pls advice. :)

    Hi Jean,

Yep, the warm water refers to normal temperature water (or a mixture of hot+cold water if you don’t have that) =]

For the vinegar, it’s half teaspoon, and not tablespoon. The cup I had used for this guide is pretty small (I could fit a maximum of two eggs in this cup), hence why the spoon looks quite big here.

    Hope this helps! :D
