Healthy office snacks #5: Wholemeal & multigrain breads

Bread makes good snacks or even quick meals at work. It is easy to get in the stores and easy to prepare with a variety of spreads (i.e. butter, kaya, jams) and meats to choose from (i.e. ham, sausages, luncheon meat).

Whole-meal and multigrain breads have more fibre than white breads, making them a healthier option. A journal from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that women who ate whole grain weigh less and are less likely to gain weight from those who ate refined-grain food.

It also reduces the risk of getting metabolic syndrome, which is a group of disorders that increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. It prevents gallstones, prevents constipation, and protects against breast cancer, and this list goes on.

Wholegrain breads are getting more popular and are much more easily available than before. You can get them at bakeries and supermarkets.
