FOOD DELIVERY REVIEW: Dah Makan

FOOD DELIVERY REVIEW: Dah Makan

Having tried Healthy Ever After Eating Plan, I am excited to try other home delivery services (Read: 10 healthy, home-cooked food delivery in Klang Valley). So I was more than glad when Dah Makan, a new delivery service in town, offered to JewelPie two of their signature dishes and a cold-pressed juice from Lifestyle Juicery.

On the day of delivery, I had my regular breakfast at 8 am and waited eagerly for my lunch, tea and dinner. When my delivery arrived at 12.30 pm, I was already hungry and decided to start with the meal with roast chicken breast with mashed potato.

My last meatless and cold meals experience with foreign ingredients made me crave for food like never before. I’m happy to report that this time, I experienced no cravings. Perhaps thanks to proportionate amount of meat and vegetables and delicious snacks (i.e green juice and raisins) in between my main meals.

LUNCH (12.30 pm): Roast Chicken Breast with Mashed Sweet Potatoes

lunch
What is it? Roast chicken breast marinated in spice mix with fluffy sweet orange and purple potato mash and daily fresh side salad. I had lettuce, green apple and radish salad.

Ingredients: Chicken, Paprika, Cumin, Sweet Potato, Vegetable Stock, Garlic, Olive Oil, Salt & Pepper, Salad

Price: RM 18

Taste: The sight of contrasting purple and orange sweet potato (on top of my hungry tummy) makes me want to dip the plastic fork in the food fast. I like the natural taste of sweet potato which I believe is without seasonings. The chicken is not disappointing either but will appeal to my taste better with more herbs. So sprinkled some black pepper over it. Surprisingly, I find the raw greens enjoyable despite not being a fan of cold salads. Perhaps it’s the addition of crunchy and sour apple that balances the taste of the natural flavour of bitter lettuce and bland radish.

Thoughts: This lunch satisfy my appetite for healthy food with the natural taste of real food. It keeps one full until tea time. I believe most people will find it enjoyable as both chicken and sweet potatoes, unlike couscous, are common food. I feel like it’s a healthier version of KFC set meal!

TEA (4.30 pM) : Green juice & raisins

the green factor lifestyle juicer

Ingredients:  The Green Factor contains kale, spinach, cucumber, apple, lemon, pineapple and orange.

Price: RM 14 for 250 ml

Calories: 57.5

Taste: The Green Factor look and taste very green – just the way I like my green juice. It’s pleasantly balanced with sweet and sour tastes of apple, lemon, pineapple and orange, making it palatable to even people who doesn’t frequently drink vegetable juices.

Thoughts: As body constitution requires more warming food than cooling food, hence raw and fresh juice is not something that I take daily. But whenever I see a cold-press juice kiosk, I’ll surely get a bottle. This surely match other popular cold-pressed juices I have tried such as La Juiceria. DINNER (7.30 pm): Morrocan Mixed Quinoa Pilaf with Chickpeas, Carrots & Raisins

dinner
What is it:  Moroccan mixed quinoa with chickpeas, raisins and carrots all tossed with a spice mix and citrus dressing. It comes with the option of a chicken drumstick stewed accompanied with a tomatoey onion broth (ours is without)

Ingredients: Quinoa, Chickpeas, Carrots, Raisins, Cumin, Tumeric, Garlic, Sugar, Rosemary, Capsicum, Coriander Seed, Mint, Olive oil, Orange Juice, Honey, Watermelon and Feta Cheese.

Calories: 410kcal

Price: RM 18

Calories: 404kcal

Taste: Although I’m not big on Morrocon food, I must say that I quite enjoy this meal (Though I much prefer lunch). It’s sufficiently moist with strong minty taste. As the dish is more sweet and sour than savoury, the salty feta cheese gives this meal a balance taste.

Thoughts:  If you’re not adventurous with food, this dish will taste very new to you. It’ll probably be more delicious with a drumstick. Containing super healthy ingredients like chickpeas and quinoa, this dish worth a try!
