We all want smooth and silky hair, but most of us don’t have all the time in the world to visit a hair saloon weekly for hair conditioning treatment. The next best thing is to do it at home (or in a hotel during your holidays or business trip). With the correct method, an at-home treatment can produce a similar result.
STEP 1: Choose a deep conditioning hair product
Choose a deep conditioning hair product that suits your need i.e for sensitive scalp, SLS-free, etc. There are good deep conditioners at various price range pharmacy or saloon brands. I’ve previously tried brands like Dove, L’Oreal and Lush. This time, I’m using Kerastase which is designed to texturised and give substance to the hair.

STEP 2: Wash your hair
Deep conditioner works better with clean and damp hair. Hence it’s better to do it after washing your hair. Towel dry your hair and squeeze excess water off it. Your hair is suppose to be damp, not wet. This is to ensure the hair mask is not diluted.
STEP 3: Apply product the right way, section by section (important!)
You might now, that you should concentrate on the ends of the hair and avoid the scalp. But many make one mistake: slather and rub the product all over your hair.
The correct technique is to apply the product on your hair section by section. Then, use your fingers to comb/coat the conditioner through sections of your hair, from top to bottom. I normally comb through each section about ten times, very quickly. This step ensures that the product can fully penetrate into your hair.
STEP 4: Cover with shower cap and wrap a towel around it
At a hair saloon, your your hair will be treated with a steam iron, a clunky machine with a dome covering your head. Heat from the steam open up the cuticles of the hair to allow conditioner to penetrate the hair and lock in moisture. To replicate this at home, simply cover your hair with a shower cap and wrap a towel around your head.
STEP 5 : Wait for 10 15 minutes before rinsing
Give time to give the conditioner to work. Most products recommend an average of 5 minutes. For better results, increase the time and leave the conditioner in for up to 20 minutes. Go ahead and do whatever you need to do. I normally like to check my mails while waiting for the conditioner to work magic on my hair. Then rinse your hair as your normally would.
Now, your hair should be super soft and silky. Do it over the weekends when you don’t have to style your hair .Your crowning glory deserve some rest and pampering!
